I’m not going to say a whole lot about this movie because I really want you to see it.
One of the best “life story” movies I have ever seen. Imagine a cross between “the princess bride” - the clever framework, enduring love that drives a boy to the end of the earth, and hilarious characters along the way - with “city of god” - unimaginable poverty and the savage actions of man derived from it, simple vision and desperation to see past it, all set within one of the world’s largest modern metropolis’.
The game show frame was brilliant, and kept the movie from ever getting stagnant. When traveling through someone’s entire life, no matter how interesting they are, movies tending to get stale. That didn’t happen in this movie. A change up, flash forward or big laugh would come along at just the right time to keep the flow organic.
If this doesn’t win best picture, everyone is dumb.
